A Tender Tennessee Christmas
Christmas in the country is a time of celebration, joy, and homemade goodies. Even if you don’t live in the country, you can still give your home the feeling of a country Christmas. Start by making some handmade decorations for your tree. Using cookie cutters, you can cut out many shapes and designs of decorations. Start by cutting out two identical shapes from felt, and another from batting. You can either stitch the ornament, or use fabric glue to stick the two pieces together. The batting should be between the two pieces prior to sewing or gluing. Add things like eyes where needed, or ribbon, and decorate the ornaments, then hang them on your tree, along with hand strung popcorn and cranberries. You could also use the ornaments that your children have made in school to add a country look to your Christmas tree.
Pinecones and apples are wonderful choices when decorating your home country style for Christmas. You can cover pinecones in glitter, or use them as they are for creating beautiful centerpieces or accents. Tie some pinecones together with red velvet ribbon, along with a few cinnamon sticks and you have a beautiful ornament to hang in the center of your windows that gives off a wonderful, country aroma. Using oranges with fresh cloves is another wonderful decorating idea. Make small holes in oranges using a nail or other small, sharp object. Push fresh cloves into the holes, and tie a ribbon around the orange for hanging. You could also pile them in a woven basket. They not only look beautiful, but they also give off a wonderful smell.
There are many ways to give your home décor a country Christmas look. Just remember that most things in a country Christmas theme will appear homemade. Whether you make those things yourself, or opt to purchase them, the overall theme will be the same. Although it is much more fun if you make them yourself.
