Country Home Decor

Whether you live in a rural area, or in one of the biggest metropolis’, country home décor is fast becoming one of the most popular ways to decorate or redecorate a home. Peaceful, serene, family oriented, are just a few ways to describe the feelings from a home decorated in country colors and schemes.

Colors vary in shades, but two very prominent ones seem to be Country Blue and Country Rose. These two colors are friendly and inviting, and will make guests in your home feel comfortable at once. Furniture in a country decorated home normally maintains its natural wood tones, such as pine or oak. Hard wood floors are a very popular aspect of this decorating technique. Adding a braided or hook rug to a hard wood floor instantly adds warmth and old world style beauty.

Gingham is also a very popular aspect. Gingham curtains, furniture covers, bedroom linens, etc., can be found in many homes decorated in the country look. Simply adding gingham curtains to your kitchen can add a country feel, and instantly make you feel more relaxed and sublime.

Also something to remember if you’re planning to decorate your home in a country décor, is that sunlight is very important. Window blinds are fine, as are curtains, but no heavy drapery, you want the sunlight to be more than able to filter through the windows.

The best rule of thumb to remember when decorating in this style is to consider yourself outdoors. Pinecones, plants, flowers, evergreens, all are things that you’ll want to think about placing strategically in your home to give it a country feel. Greenery placed around family photos on the wall, or woven baskets filled with country magazines will create a look and feel of being in the country.

Candles are another thing. People in the country use candles, and if you want your home to exude country feelings, then candles are a must. You can pick up candles at just about any shop, and there are many scents and varieties available. You can, for example, around the Holidays, burn candles with a cinnamon scent, or even a pumpkin pie scent, and instantly feel a down home country vibe.

Just remember to keep objects to a minimum. You don’t want any room that you decorate to feel or look cluttered. You can start with just one wall, and build around that wall. Or maybe start with the furniture that you plan to use, and add wall art and accessories that compliment the furniture and each other. Simplicity is key, and furniture that is overstuffed and ultra comfortable. By adding one or two pieces at a time, you can soon have a country cottage in your home, even if you live in the largest city.
