Decorating for the 4th of July

We all know that the foundation colors for July 4th are red, white, and blue. What many of you may not know is that you can incorporate these colors into your home décor for the holiday’s celebration, and use the color theme even after the holiday is past.

Flags are, of course, the number one decoration for July 4th. If you use flags, then this is probably when you have them in your home. However, flags can, and should be, displayed anytime that you want to show them. For those who have soldiers overseas, having a flag in your home is a wonderful way to show support. Guests will be very impressed that you are thinking of our soldiers even when the 4th has come and gone. Small flags can be purchased very inexpensively, and look beautiful in flower arrangements. Place one in a vase of fresh flowers for an extra special touch during July.

Summer Home Décor

After the long, and often drawn out cold from the winter months, summer is such a welcome relief that we can’t wait to store away winter clothes and bring out the cooler summer wardrobe. We often get so busy with enjoying the wonderful warmth that we neglect to put away our winter home décor and update our homes for the warm summer months.

Simply doing a few simple tasks can turn your home décor into a summer paradise. Start with putting away blankets and quilts. After all, you don’t need them any longer, at least until next winter, so store them in closets or in boxes under your bed. Just removing these heavy items will instantly make your home feel less smothering and hot. Also replace heavy drapes with lighter curtains. Sheers work wonderfully in summer, as do lace curtains.

You might consider painting your walls if it still feels like you are trapped in winter’s embrace. Lighter colors help the sunlight to reflect throughout the room. If you have dark paneling, consider painting over it, or even changing it altogether to a lighter color. Dark colors are associated with warmth, and during the hot summer months, the goal for your home décor should be cool. Choose cooler colors when decorating with pillows, curtains, even flowers. Blues, greens, and whites are cool colors that will take away from the blistering heat outdoors. Be sure to let the sunlight in, but also be certain that you are not driving up your cooling bill. Mini blinds and shades work wonderfully, not only as a lovely window treatment, but also to help block out the suns rays when they are at their hottest.

Doing just a few simple things around your home can prepare you for summer, as well as add much needed color to your décor.

There are ways to incorporate Feng Shui into your home décor that will promote good health. You should first choose a spot for your health energy center. This could be a room, or even the corner of a specific room. It should be somewhere that you can add the Feng Shui health energy aspect and still go along with your current décor.

African Jungle home décor is beautiful and it literally screams culture. But how do you add it to your home? You can start with a single piece, and add things to compliment that piece. Assuming, of course, that you don’t plan to entirely redecorate your home. Choose a room, or even one wall in a room, and start small. You want to build the décor up, not overdo it at once.

Jungle animals are very popular in home décor. Elephants, giraffes, zebras; you can find these animals everywhere just waiting to be taken home. Let’s assume that you’re going to decorate your living room. Start small, maybe with a figurine, and build from that single piece. If you’ve decided that you want elephants, then find a piece that you really like, and place it in the room that you’re decorating. There are many pieces with elephants, from tables to lamps to couches. You can go to just about any extreme and still have a lovely room for you and your guests to enjoy.
