Warm Up Your Home Décor
Changing your home décor from season to season can be as simple as adding a few minor items, such as throw pillows or flowers. Many people, during the colder months replace their thin curtains for heavier ones to ensure that cold air is kept out. This is a wonderful idea to help with the heating bill, but it also causes your home to seem dark and dreary. Consider the colors that you are adding. Most heavy curtains, especially those used during the holiday season, are darker colors, such as hunter green or a deep red. Choosing to instead use curtains that are colorful, with floral arrangements in the pattern, can add much needed light to the dreary winter months, and make your home seem much less cold and dark.
By adding a few freshly cut flowers or potted plants, you can also add much needed light and color into your home for the winter. Poinsettias are a beautiful choice for colorful plants during the holiday season, and you can also find colorful mums, as well as other varieties, in pots to add warmth and spring like colors to your home décor. Be very careful during the winter months to not let your plants become too dry. The dry heat from heating systems is very harsh on plants, so to optimize the color addition, be sure not to let your plants become parched.
You can also add a few throw pillows to couches and chairs, or even to your bed if your bedroom seems dreary. Choose pillows that will ultimately match your current décor, and also have bright colors in them to give the appeal of a warm spring day. Yellows and pastels are a wonderful color choice for warming you up instantly. You do not have to completely renovate your home décor, but adding just a few colorful pieces will help to beat the winter blues long before spring comes.
