Weekend Bedroom Project
Here’s a quick, inexpensive, and easy way to give your bedroom a romantic look, and you can do it in a weekend. Assuming that you have your bed’s headboard against a wall without windows, you can use this tip to bring instant romance and serenity to your bedroom.
It involves simply painting a picture on your wall. Relax, it won’t be as hard as it sounds. You start with purchasing paint and stencils, and some masking tape. The idea is to have a wall that puts you in the mind of a castle wall, and it looks beautiful. Your paint can be any color you choose, however, brick colors (reds) or block colors (whites and grays) will look best. First, you’ll want to create your “bricks”. Starting at the top of the wall, measure down to whatever size you want your bricks to be. For instance, if you want one inch bricks, then measure down one inch, and put masking tape. You’ll need to decide the size of your bricks before you begin. Let’s use bricks that are 12 inches by 12 inches. So, 12 inches down and 12 inches over, put masking tape. Do that for the entire first row.
When it comes to the second row, you’ll want to stagger them, so they look like laid brick. Then make the third row match up with the first row, and so on, until you reach the floor. When you’re finished, you simply paint the wall. When the wall is dry, you pull off the masking tape, and voila! You have a brick wall. You can, depending on the color of your wall before you started, dip a small sponge into paint that’s not the color of your new wall, say if your new wall is red, then you’d want to use a gray based paint, and using the sponge, go over the lines left by the masking tape to create a grout look.
Now, when the wall is finished and completely dry, maybe the next day, then you need stencils in the shape of ivy leaves. You’ll start at the floor, and going up, you want to create the look of climbing ivy. This is a fun job, as you can use your own creativity and add as many or as few leaves as you like. Using a small brush, start by making the vine. Simply paint a curving line up your wall. Then go back and paint, using the stencils, your ivy leaves. You want the leaves to curve toward each other at the top of the wall. This makes it look like your bed is under an ivy arch.
This project is really a lot easier than it sounds, and when you’re finished, you will have a beautiful bedroom wall that is sure to spark romance and tranquility. Add a large floor plant in a corner, and maybe a stuffed down comforter in a light color, and you’ve got a fairy tale bedroom all your own.
